Summer
Musical Theatre Workshops
MARY RASHID ~ Directing since 1970 in high schools, universities and in
community theatres, Musical Theatre is Ms. Rashid's professional passion.  
She has worked as a director, producer, costumer, set & lighting designer,
musical director and coach.  Her approach to producing is centered around the
team approach.  Her staff of choreographers, technicians, designers, voice
and acting coaches all work together to produce an out-standing product no
matter what the age group.  A well-known high school choral music educator,
her ensembles continually take highest ratings in State competitions.  She is
frequently asked to be a clinician for musical theatre, vocal technique
workshops and training sessions. Several of her former high school students
are currently on Broadway featured in leading or secondary roles.

Ms. Rashid is a graduate of University of Notre Dame, Eastern Michigan
University and University of Detroit.  Post graduate work in vocal technique for
performers and chorale conducting at Westminster Choir College and Portland
State University.  Since 1996, she has taught at
Walled Lake Central High
School
where she directs 5 choirs and runs the Musical Theatre Program.  She
has directed and taught at Oakland University, Marygrove College, University of
Detroit, Madonna University, Shrine High School & Academy and community
theatres.

BARBARA WILTSIE ~ An Assistant Professor of Voice at Madonna University
of Livonia is known not only as a private voice instructor for teens and adults
but also as a solo performer in both the operatic and music theater genres.  
Her high school students have proceeded onto music programs at universities
such as: University of Michigan, Michigan State, Oakland University, Hope
College, Grand Valley State, Western Michigan, Cleveland Institute of Music,
Bowling Green State, Carnegie Mellon, Cornerstone, and Westminster Choir
College. Ms. Wiltsie's students have earned top ratings in the MSVMA Solo &
Ensemble Adjudications, NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing),
winners of local competitions as well as earning lead roles in musical theatre
productions.  In addition to her private teaching, Ms. Wiltsie is an adjudicator
for the MSVMA Solo & Ensemble, N.A.T.S., previous
teaching at Marygrove
College and Macomb Community College, and was a voice specialist for the
Cranbrook Theatre School and
Project Daydream.

Formerly a long-time Touring Artist for Michigan Opera Theater, she has
garnered many awards in the operatic field - Metropolitan Opera Young Artists
Awards, National Opera Association, Friedrich Schorr Memorial Prize, NATSAA
(NATS Artists Auditions) -  and has performed solo roles with various
companies and symphonies such as Michigan Opera, Toledo Opera, Des
Moines Metro Opera, Fargo-Moorhead Civic Opera, Detroit Symphony, Toledo
Symphony, Ann Arbor Symphony, Bach Festival of Kalamazoo, Mendelssohn
Chorale of Pittsburgh. Ms. Wiltsie is also the managing director and performer
for two performing groups:
SOPRANOS THREE! and ACT II.  At Madonna
University she instructs students in private voice, various vocal related classes
,
is the Director of both the Lyric Theatre Program and the University Singers,
and creates and runs various recruiting projects for the Music Department.
